MA-1はアメリカ空軍が開発したフライトジャケット(フライングジャケット/ボマージャケット)です。

数あるフライトジャケットの中で最もポピュラーで、かつ最も息の長い存在がMA-1です。MA-1の開発は1950年代初めに開始されましたが、ベースとなったのはそれまでの正式フライトジャケットの座にあったB-15シリーズです。B-15は1943年に登場したコットン製のB-10を改良発展させたもので、めまぐるしい技術革新や軍用機の発展に呼応しつつ変貌を遂げてきました。そうして誕生したMA-1はフライトジャケットの襟を取ると言う最も大きな改良を加えられたモデルで、その背景にはジェット機が開発され、それまでの航空装備の見直しを迫られたからでした。1957年に採用以来、1976年にCWU45/Pが登場するまでアメリカ空軍将兵によって愛され続けました。そのスタイルはファションの世界にも大きな影響を与えており、もはやミリタリーの範疇を大きく超えた存在となっています。

襟と袖口と裾部分はリブで切替えられています。

フロントジッパーの引き手部分には、グローブや手袋などをしていても、
簡単に開閉が可能になるよう考慮された大きめなスライダーとレザータブ引手が付きます。

ジッパーの後にはジグザグステッチ入りの比翼(ストームフラップ)が付き、
ジッパーから漏れた風が侵入してくるのを防いでくれるつくりになっています。
比翼上部にはアルファロゴマークのワンポイント刺繍入りです。

左袖には、本物の証であるALPHAリボンタブ付きの
エマージェンシーキット(シガレットポケット＆ペンポケット)が付けられています。
(アルファリボンタブは着脱可能です)

ウエスト部分の斜めに口が開くスナップボタン付きのスラッシュポケットが設けられています。

左胸付近のジップ脇には、酸素マスクのホースをクリップで固定する目的のナイロン製オキシジェンタブが付けられています。両脇にはICSコードループが配されています。

背中には直刺繍と刺繍ツイルワッペンが配されています。

Outer shell : 100% nylon, heavy nylon twill. It is high density and extremely durable. It combines the toughness and the natural softness for comfort. This fabric has a soft touch and deep hue with beautiful sheen.

Lining shell : 100% nylon twill lining. The lining is smooth and sleek so you can take the jacket off and put it on easily.

Interlining (Type of insulation ) : Inside padding. 100% polyester fiber fill sandwiched between the outer shell and lining shell, Suitable for fall and winter seasons.

Placket type : Zipper closure with internal storm flap with zig-zag stitching. Alpha branding logo on the upper section of the internal storm flap.

Storage : Two slanted snap-closure single welt pockets on waist, two interior snap-closure vertical-side-entry pockets. A cigarette and pen pocket(utility pocket) with a zipper on left sleeve.

The MA-1 bomber jacket (also known as the MA-1 flight jacket) is an American military jacket which was first developed in the mid 1950s by U.S. Air Force and Navy pilots and ground crew. The MA-1 pilot jacket was the first military flight jacket to cross over into civilian fashion.
